Unfortunately men die younger than women, are more likely to be diagnosed and die of cancer, and are less likely to visit a health professional for regular checkups! The Cancer Society wants to change this sad state of affairs so on Fathers Day issued a challenge to men to take better care of themselves, be responsible for their own health and seek professional advice if they have any health concerns.... Vital health decision
The Cancer Society is welcoming the introduction of the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine onto the immunisation schedule, saying the vaccine has been approved and available, but not universally accessible in New Zealand, since 2006. "Each year in New Zealand about 200 women develop cervical cancer and about 66 die of the disease," said Health Promotion Manager, Dr Jan Pearson. Summer is not over and the danger of skin cancer can not be underestimated, Chair of the New Zealand Cancer Control Council Dame Cath Tizard said today. The focus in recent weeks on the efficacy of sun screens has concerned the council.
