The Cancer Society of New Zealand’s Daffodil Day symbolises hope for the 1 in 3 New Zealanders affected by cancer.  It is more than just an annual appeal for funds, it is also about a community coming together to fight cancer.

Since 1990, this iconic event has inspired people from across the country to come together and support the Cancer Society’s work.  As well as providing an opportunity to raise awareness of cancer in New Zealand, Daffodil Day is a major funding source for the Cancer Society.  Locally it represents around one third of our annual income, and your donations go towards vital scientific research into the causes and treatment of all types of cancer, as well as providing a wide range of support services and programmes for people affected by cancer in Taranaki, and local education and prevention programmes.

The day itself happens on the last Friday in August every year – but other activities and awareness campaigns happen throughout the month of August.

We use the daffodil as our symbol as it is one of the first flowers of spring, whose bright yellow blooms remind us of the joys the new season will bring. It represents the hope there is for all those affected by cancer.

The National Bank is the proud principal sponsor of the event, and the hard work of its employees helps focus the nation's attention on our cause every year.

Whether it’s buying daffodils / donating to our street collectors, purchasing our merchandise, or making a donation by text / phone / online, or simply volunteering your time; every gift counts.

This year the Taranaki Centre is holding an online auction, and is also running a window display competition for local shops and businesses.  If you are a business you can also pre order fresh daffodils and other merchandise, to be delivered in time for Daffodil Day.    We are also running a colouring in competition for children under 12, so there is something for everyone!

With your help, there is hope
