A major focus of the Cancer Society is health promotion which aims to decrease the number of people developing cancers. Health promotion encourages people to make healthy lifestyle choices that reduce their risk of developing cancer. More about prevention and health promotion
Transport
The Taranaki Cancer Society provides a Shuttle Service from New Plymouth picking up patients and carers from various points in Taranaki and driving them to treatment at Palmerston North hospital on Mondays and Fridays. Transport can sometimes be provided on a Wednesday when necessary. Volunteer drivers are also available for transport to and from other appointments. More information about transport services
The Cancer Society of NZ Taranaki Centre is a Non-Government organisation, and as such we recieve no government funding for the core services in health promotion and support that we provide to the Taranaki Community.
We are therefore totally reliant on public support through volunteering, donations, bequests, and our special fundraising events such as Daffodil Day & Relay For Life. As an incorporated society we are membership based.
